Healthy Schools Healthy Children Get Top Marks

We know parents are concerned about how well their children are progressing in school. But, did you know that physical activity and healthy eating will help your child achieve top marks?

Children who participate in physical activity each day show improved memory, concentration, communication, problem-solving and leadership abilities. Also, regular physical activity builds strong bones and muscles, helps to achieve a healthy weight, promotes good posture, strengthens the heart, improves self-esteem and enhances growth and development.

Healthy meals and snacks during the school day, along with a good breakfast, provide children with the nutrients and fuel they need to grow and develop fully, do well in class, and get the most out of extracurricular activities.

Working Together for Healthier Schools

Good health is the foundation for learning and student success. But in today’s world students face many challenges that can affect their health. The Simcoe Muskoka District Heath Unit is collaborating with schools in Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka to promote health and wellness and prevent illness and injury. This approach is called Healthy Schools and is based on the Ministry of Education's Foundations for a Healthy School.

For more information, visit Healthy Schools on the health unit's web site.
